Ford has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming affordable electric pickup as the Fathom, with a starting price of $28,350. The Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform and is set to go on sale in early 2027. The name Fathom was chosen for its meaning of “to penetrate and come to understand” possibilities that were once thought beyond reach, which is what Ford had to do to bring the midsize EV pickup to life.
Ford Fathom: Affordable EV Pickup
The Fathom will feature Ford’s next-generation BlueCruise hands-free autonomous technology and have more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4. It will be the first vehicle from the brand to sit on the all-new ‘Universal EV’ platform, which features “cooler engineering than a hypercar”, according to Ford CEO Jim Farley. The Fathom is part of Ford’s plan to revamp its European car lineup and will be offered in the US, with a possible launch in the UK in the future.
