Global electric vehicle sales have seen a significant increase in recent months, with a 9% rise in July alone. According to data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, around 1.85 million EVs were sold worldwide last month, bringing the total sales for 2026 to 11.5 million, up 4% from the same period last year. This growth is largely attributed to the increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicles and government initiatives to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
EV Sales Rise in Europe and the Rest of the World
The growth in EV sales is not uniform across all regions, with Europe and the Rest of the World delivering strong growth, while North America has seen a decline in sales. In China, battery-electric vehicle sales are up, but overall new energy vehicle sales are down due to a decline in plug-in hybrid sales. The global EV market continues to be defined by regional divergence, with different regions experiencing varying levels of growth and decline.
The increase in EV sales can be attributed to the growing awareness of the need to reduce carbon emissions and the increasing availability of affordable electric vehicles. Many countries have set targets to phase out internal combustion engines and promote the adoption of electric vehicles, which is driving the growth of the EV market.
